2014 Mary's Vineyard, Semillon

This sustainably farmed estate vineyard sits on 14-acres in the warm Calistoga AVA and has balanced vines, moderately fertile soils and excellent sun exposure—ideal conditions to grow Semillon with vibrant, rich character.
This wine was inspired by the Italian dessert wine and is a nod to the Italian roots of the Trinchero family. The Semillon grapes are picked at optimum ripeness, typically around 22.5˚ Brix. Winemaker Mario Monticelli puts the grapes on crisping racks designed specifically for this wine in a warm, well ventilated part of the winery, thus encouraging the moisture in the grape to evaporate. This process of desiccation allows the sugars in the grape to be more concentrated. Once the wine reaches 33˚ Brix it is pressed, then fermented and aged in small, 30 gallon French oak barrels, about 50% new.
“This wine possesses beautiful aromas of sweet, ripe peaches, pear tart, apricot jam and honey comb with some nuances of cinnamon and brown sugar crisp. It starts on the palate with surprisingly bright acidity, supporting balanced sweetness and rich viscosity that makes the flavors linger. First tasted this dessert wine at the Trinchero Tasting Room and it was the first dessert wine I have found to be absolutely perfect and not too sweet! We purchased a case and have given bottles to our closest friends for holidays gifts and everyone has responded back how delightful the wine is especially if chilled in a freezer for 30 minutes prior to serving. Goes great with home made peach cobbler!

We bought the 2011 bottle and it is fabulous! Goes wonderfully with almond cookies. It is not overly sweet and has a complex taste that is delightful!
