2016 Mary's Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
This sustainably farmed estate vineyard sits on 14-acres in the Calistoga AVA and has balanced vines, moderately fertile soils and excellent sun exposure—ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant character
After multiple years of dry weather, the Napa Valley finally received an ideal winter. The rain began in November and continued intermittently through midApril. The vineyards were perfectly prepared for bud-break with ample water available for the season. We waited patiently to see if Mother Nature would be more generous with yield after a very small 2015 crop size. The weather continued to be ideal, with average highs in the mid-80s all the way through August. Cool nights helped maintain bright acidity to balance the firm tannins. Harvest for Trinchero Napa Valley began on August 29th with Mary’s Sauvignon Blanc. This was 3 days later than 2015, but still 5–7 days earlier than average.
“Mary’s Vineyard is a warm site to grow aromatic white wines and I am consistently pleased with the balance of ripe tropical fruit and bright acidity in the grapes from this vineyard. This wine is entirely fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain its natural fruitiness. This is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of pear, apricot and subtle mineral components, boasting beautiful complexity, a silky texture with mouth-filling kumquat, passion fruit and juicy mango flavors. A fresh, bright citrus undertone carries through to a crisp, refreshing and wellbalanced finish.” – Mario Monticelli
