TNV 2014 Mary's Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc
“Mary’s Vineyard is a warm place to grow aromatic white wines and I have been pleased with the balance of ripe tropical fruit and bright acidity in the grapes from this vineyard. Once again, we experienced another stunning vintage of Mary’s Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is fermented and aged in stainless steel for about 5 months. It is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of melon, orange blossom and subtle mineral components, boasting beautiful complexity and hints of pineapple, passion fruit and juicy mango flavors. Medium bodied and great viscosity in the mid-palate create a dry and refreshing wine followed by a crisp and well-balanced finish.” - Mario Monticelli
Like its namesake, Mary’s Vineyard has a lot of personality. Located in the recently recognized Calistoga AVA, Mary’s was the very first vineyard purchased by the Trinchero family, and holds significant sentimental value. Named to honor Mario’s wife, Mary’s Vineyard has aged very gracefully, with balanced vines, moderately fertile soils and excellent sun exposure—ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc with a tropical character.
For the third season in a row, the Napa Valley experienced an exceptionally dry winter, only receiving 2” of rain between November 2013 and February 2014. February brought relief with rain, and that moisture established a healthy canopy. Bud-break came 2-3 weeks early, as did bloom, and clusters were loose with slight “shatter”. Warm, consistent temperatures (with Napa Valley’s signature cool evenings) allowed skins to develop slowly, creating rich flavors and crisp tannins while maintaining bright acidity.
