2012 Forte Red Wine
18 months, 100% French oak (60% new)
This wine is sustainably sourced from several of our prime estate vineyards throughout the Napa Valley. In crafting this blend, we hand selected barrels of Malbec from both our Haystack Vineyard in Atlas Peak and Cloud’s Nest Vineyard in Mount Veeder, two of Napa Valley’s high elevation sub-appellations. The Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in this blend came from our Central Park West Vineyard in St. Helena.
The 2012 growing season in Napa Valley began with an early bud-break, followed by mild spring weather, which gave us a heavy berry set. Our vines consistently saw warm, beautiful days throughout the growing season, coupled with Napa’s signature cool nights and foggy mornings, ensuring slow and even ripening. The varietal flavor and character developed in unison with sugar ripening. A warm fall with very little rain made for a smooth harvest. The resulting wines have beautiful balance and depth.
“I am especially excited about the inaugural release of our Forte proprietary red blend. Having an incredible arsenal of vineyards at my disposal enables me to make a wine with layers and layers of aromas and flavors. And, like having every color on an artist’s palette, it lets me paint the most intricate picture. This Malbec-based blend boasts beautiful aromas of dark black fruit, floral notes and a medley of rich fruit flavors. With ample body and soft, sweet tannins, it delivers a wonderful expression of a Napa Valley-style Bordeaux blend.” – Mario Monticelli
