2016 Mario's Cabernet Sauvignon
September 8 - October 26, 2016
20 months in French oak, 60% new
The 2016 Mario’s Cabernet Sauvignon is lush, with aromas and flavors of dark cherries, mocha, chocolate and raspberry jam. On the palate, the wine is soft and youthful, with lovely polished tannins and a lingering, silky finish.
Mario’s Vineyard, St. Helena Named for founder Mario Trinchero, this rare jewel of a site surrounds our winery in St. Helena, along a narrow, 13-acre stretch of the valley floor formed by river erosion. Its northwest exposure, coupled with a mix of gravel, loam and alluvial soils, makes Mario’s Vineyard ideally suited for opulent Cabernet Sauvignon with impressive structure and velvety tannins. Central Park West Vineyard, St. Helena A nod to our family’s roots in New York City, our Central Park West Vineyard rests on the valley floor at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation. This 22-acre site, with its ample sunshine and deep loam and alluvial soils, is well-suited for growing classic red Bordeaux varieties. Planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this vineyard produces decadent wines with layer upon layer of complex flavors.
The growing season was nearly picture perfect in 2016. It started early and saw ideal weather conditions throughout. Thanks to a relatively steady and mild July and August and then a series of warm days at the end of the growing season, vineyards were able to progress to perfect ripeness.

This wine has taken on a great deal of importance to me. I don't usually buy wines at this price point because it's a bit too expensive for me. However, I will buy this wine whenever I have some extra dollars because it was the last wine recommended to me by one of my closest friends, Chris Murzin, of Dallas, TX. Chris Murzin, age 53, was murdered on Feb 11, 2021 in a senseless road-rage incident in Dallas and this has broken the hearts of such a wide swath of our community you wouldn't believe it. Now, I look for this wine so that I can toast Chris and pay homage to his friendship with each glass. Never has a wine been more meaningful for me. I wish you could have known Chris - you would have loved him.
