2012 Haystack Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Seasonal Pick!
Wine & Spirits
Haystack Vineyard is nestled way up in Atlas Peak, Napa Valley’s highest appellation, perched 1,500 feet above sea level in the Vaca Mountains. This craggy, extremely rocky site stresses the vines, resulting in small, intensely concentrated berries.
The 2012 growing season began with an early budbreak and mild weather in the spring made for a heavy berry set. We had beautiful, consistent warm days throughout the growing season coupled with cool nights and foggy mornings, ensuring good slow ripeness. The phenolic maturity was in unison with sugar ripening. The warm fall with very little rain made for a harvest without incident. The resulting wines have beautiful balance and depth.
“True to its mountain origins, our Haystack Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a dense purple color and concentrated aromas of cassis and dark fruits with undertones of violet and mineral. On the palate, black fruit flavors are enhanced by hints of licorice and earth. The texture of this wine is full-bodied, yet inviting, with rustic tannins that linger through a long-lasting finish. This is a wine with incredible ageability.” – Mario Monticelli
