2012 Mario's Vineyard, Cabernet Sauvignon
October 11-26, 2012
Named in honor of Mario Trinchero, this 13-acre vineyard surrounds our flagship winery in St. Helena. Located in a narrow, protected part of the Napa Valley, this vineyard is bench land off the slope of Spring Mountain, with a unique rocky composition ideally situated to growing stellar Cabernet Sauvignon. This jewel of a site is sustainably farmed and produces elegant wine with floral aromas, bright red fruit flavors and a supple, satisfying texture.
The 2012 growing season began with an early budbreak and mild weather in the spring made for a heavy berry set. We had beautiful, consistent warm days throughout the growing season coupled with cool nights and foggy mornings, ensuring good slow ripeness. The phenolic maturity was in unison with sugar ripening. The warm fall with very little rain made for a harvest without incident. The resulting wines have beautiful balance and depth.
“I have the pleasure of watching this vineyard on a daily basis, as it sits literally right outside the winery. The fruit from this benchland area of St. Helena consistently produces wines with great structure and velvety tannins. This Cabernet Sauvignon presents baked blackberry pie and vanilla on the nose followed by cassis, caramel and integrated oak flavors. The mouthfeel is silky and multidimensional with elegant, refined tannins and a long, plush finish. I hope that if Mario Trinchero were looking down he would be proud of this vineyard and the resulting wine.” – Mario Monticelli

Enjoyed my first bottle of the Mario’s Vineyard 2013 Cab last evening for my son’s birthday. I decanted it for one hour and served at 60 degrees. Absolutely one of the best red wines I’ve ever enjoyed. At a sub $100 price point, better than most $100+ cabs I’ve had over the years. Very very nice red wine with beef tenderloin, lamb chops and venison.
