2014 Central Park West Vineyard, Petit Verdot

TA: 5.4 g/l
18 months. 100% French oak (60% new)
High above the Napa Valley floor in the Mayacamas Mountains, our Cloud’s Nest Vineyard embodies the greatness of the Mt. Veeder appellation. This high altitude vineyard is incredibly steep with gravelly soil, and like all our vineyards, must be patiently farmed by hand. It’s cool, eastern exposure allows for extended hang time, which imbues the grapes with greater complexity and character.
The 2014 growing season in Napa Valley was preceded by an exceptionally dry winter which also included some of the coldest days on record. It began with an early bud-break, followed by a mild spring and rain early on in the season. It was an early-season from bud-break to veraison to harvest, with an unexpected earthquake in late August, and some hail in late September, to keep the winemakers on their toes. All in all, 2014 delivered a vintage of exceptional quality.
“Though traditionally a blending grape, I really enjoy making (and drinking) this wine on its own. this wine exhibits a bouquet of fresh flowers, chocolate covered strawberries, and savory rocks. Big, potent tannins coat the mouth with flavors of briary black fruits, graphite, and botanic notations. The wine finishes with the grip of tightly wound tannins that linger in a white pepper spicy way. This is classic, big, powerful, tannic, full-bodied Petit Verdot.“ —Mario Monticelli
