2017 Mary's Vineyard, Sauvignon Blanc
September 4- September 7, 2017
This sustainably farmed estate vineyard sits on 14-acres in the Calistoga AVA and has balanced vines, moderately fertile soils and excellent sun exposure—ideal conditions to grow Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant character.
The 2017 vintage will be talked about for many years to come. As with the previous winter, the end of 2016 brought wet weather to Napa. By the time bud-break neared, some parts of Napa reached over 50” of rain. Winter temperatures were more normal and bud-break came about a week later than the prior year. The Napa Valley experienced another beautiful spring with mild daytime temperatures and dry weather leading into hot temperatures in August which quickened ripening. Harvest for Trinchero began on September 4th with Mary’s Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc which was 6 days later than 2016 and slightly later than normal.
“Mary’s Vineyard is a warm site to grow aromatic white wines and I am consistently pleased with the balance of ripe tropical fruit and bright acidity in the grapes from this vineyard. This wine is entirely fermented and aged in stainless steel to retain its natural fruitiness. This is unmistakably Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of Bartlett pear, apricot, citrus, and lemon blossom with great minerality. This wine is boasting with beautiful complexity, a silky, oily texture with mouth-filling citrus and mineral flavors. A medium-bodied, fresh, bright, and crisp wine with a clean and well-balanced finish.”– Mario Monticelli, Winemaker
