2011 Central Park West Vineyard, Cab Sauv 1.5L - LIB
September 22 - October 17, 2011
18 months, French oak (75% new)
“Even though this wine bears a New York City name, it screams St. Helena. In 2011, we hand-picked this vineyard multiple times over a span of nearly a month. With these valley floor origins and warm St. Helena climate, this is an eminently drinkable and classic St. Helena Cabernet. It boasts a beautiful dark color with concentrated aromas of black tea, purple fruits, vanilla and savory spice. Black cherry and plum flavors lead into a soft mid-palate and a long, velvety finish.” - Mario Monticelli
Our Central Park West Vineyard, named in a nostalgic nod to the New York City origins of the Trinchero family, is located at the southern end of the St. Helena appellation. This 22- acre vineyard is a level site with deep, loamy soils, good sun exposure with dappled light and excellent air circulation—the ideal situation for producing classic Napa Valley Cabernet.
The 2011 growing season began with a wet cool spring. Rainfall lasted into the middle of June affecting bloom and diminishing yields in many vineyards. The cool weather trend continued all summer delaying ripening throughout Napa Valley. Since we are estate, we diligently monitor all our vineyards, adjusting our viticultural practices frequently. It was necessary to significantly open up the vine canopies to ensure adequate sun exposure, air circulation and ripening. Overall flavors in the grapes were achieved at lower sugar levels making lower alcohol wines that exhibit finesse and balance.
