2012 BRV Cabernet Sauvignon
18 months, 100% French oak (75% new)
Haystack Vineyard, Atlas Peak Our Haystack Vineyard is nestled way up in Atlas Peak, Napa Valley’s highest appellation, perched 1,500 feet above sea level in the Vaca Mountains. The soil here is well-drained and gains a lot of Western exposure. This rugged, extremely rocky site stresses the vines, resulting in small, intensely concentrated berries. Cloud’s Nest Vineyard, Mt. Veeder High above the Napa Valley floor in the Mayacamas Mountains, our Cloud’s Nest Vineyard embodies the greatness of the Mt. Veeder appellation. This high altitude vineyard is incredibly steep with gravelly soil, and like all of our vineyards, must be patiently farmed by hand. Its cool, eastern exposure allows for extended hang time, which imbues the grapes with greater complexity and character..
The 2012 growing season in Napa Valley began with an early bud-break, followed by mild spring weather, which gave us a heavy berry set. Our vines consistently saw warm, beautiful days throughout the growing season, coupled with Napa’s signature cool nights and foggy mornings, ensuring slow and even ripening. The varietal flavor and character developed in unison with sugar ripening. A warm fall with very little rain made for a smooth harvest. The resulting wines have beautiful balance and depth.
“The pinnacle of the portfolio, this sustainably sourced Cabernet Sauvignon is elevated in every way. On the nose, I get licorice, plum and hints of cigar box, followed by abundant flavors of blueberry, blackberry and violet. This wine reflects the intensity of its mountain origins and will age beautifully, with firm tannins and powerful structure.” – Mario Monticelli
